Barrio Storyboards

The Barrio Stories Story Board project is made up of two story boards that were designed to capture responses from community members in a creative way. The boards were created in both English and Spanish and were installed in local businesses where neighbors regularly go. Small cards asked the questions: “What is your favorite place in your neighborhood and why?” And “Who do you admire in your neighborhood and why?

Colored pencils were provided and people were encouraged to draw or write their responses. The boards were placed at three locations: Moreno’s restaurant, Yerberia Sagitario, and at Micky’s Hot Dogs. The installation was in place for a period of two months, capturing over 80 responses from local residents. The stories were used as part of the Barrio Stories Zine, combined with interviews with local residents and business owners. The collections of stories were also used as inspiration for a community mural done by artist David Martinez
