Barrio Stories Zine

The vision for the Barrio Stories Zine was to document the stories of the Southside neighborhood in a way that celebrates and highlights the experience of the residents now and in the past and to create a way to easily share those experiences within the neighborhood. The zine was created using the stories gathered from the Barrio Stories Storyboards along with interviews with local residents and business owners. Over 80 stories were collected and 36 stories were selected to be included in the Zine.

Interviews were done with two business owners, a local artist, and a longtime resident to learn about their connection to the neighborhood and their vision for the future. The interviews were then transcribed, edited, and translated to be printed in both English and Spanish. This zine serves as an archive to capture the histories of people and places as this neighborhood faces the changes that come with gentrification. This first volume of the zine in Southside Mesa is titled Barrio Stories: Distrito Latino, Volume I.
