Art Lotera at Culdesac
The Art Lotera Cart was created by Jen Gastelum to activate spaces using interactive art experiences to spark conversation and encourage interaction among community members. Culdesac, a new development on Apache Blvd focused on creating a car-free apartment complex, committed to creating community engagement opportunities throughout its development process.
The Culdesac team contracted with Jen to bring the Art Cart out for Thursday evening markets in the space where the apartments would eventually be built. In an effort to broaden the reach and deepen the impact, and create opportunities for young artists to learn about creative engagement work, Jen worked with the New School for the Arts students to imagine and design projects and then paid them for their time spent preparing and implementing their vision at the Thursday Culdesac Market.
